One thing that we have had to do over the last year is be “still.” Many of us have been disturbed by the thought of sitting with our thoughts but some of us have used the time to be centered and appreciate the stillness of always being at home. I think I fall between the two. Sometimes I have so many thoughts that I am distracted and can’t focus on one thing. Other times I am super appreciative of the small things that I get to wake up to everyday; like this increased amount of time I have to spend with my pretty girl. I also realize, now that my house is my home and my workplace, that I can use a lot of what I use at work in my personal life too. Like for example, when I am thinking about how I am going to continue to grow my portfolio, while “making my money work for me,” I can really prioritize what I need to do first wayyy better like I do when I work and have to complete tasks.
So, there are extreme differences in my approach to clear my mind that depend on the scenario. I really differentiate between if I am sitting still (or meditating) and planning my thoughts out. When I meditate, I focus on acknowledging my thoughts and letting them pass by rather than thinking or planning. If I am really trying to plan out how I am going to execute something in my personal life, outside of work, I really focus on an actual list of prioritized items (i.e. research similar successes, write down a list of what I need to do, give myself a realistic timeline etc.). I think all of us have goals and aspirations that we want to accomplish but when we have, like me, a 5 year old that wants all of your attention if you aren’t working, have to clean your house, have to cook, have an online shopping addiction (lol) and many more everyday life events, we can forget to take time to keep working towards our aspirations; our true aspirations. Before I get into the meat of the blog, I’ll start by saying, “Manifestation” without dedication to whatever you want to make happen, is just wishful thinking.
Not to get into this modern day slavery conversation of what many call the “American Dream” of having one set salary that you work to be rewarded with when completing tasks, rather than taking risks to live your actual dream and creating your own path, but that is really what it comes down to. We work so hard to do well for accolades in our careers that we don’t take time to really plan how to make our true aspirations come to life. By 5 or 6 o’clock, we are tired, we just worked all day, we have to give our babies all the attention they need, we have to take care of other things that we feel are more urgent. But we really can do both.
Steps towards what we are “Manifesting”:
- Track wasted time. First track how much time you spend on your phones being nosey on social media. I can speak for myself that that ish is addicting. But it is necessary to log off sometimes so we can be more productive. There are times I sit there scrolling down looking at stuff I can care less about (lol) but I find myself looking up an hour later.
- Make it fun! If you have a plan that you want to make come to life, that is something that is fun. It’s definitely going to be fun once you find out you have accomplished what you have worked for.
- Plan with research. After doing this entire doctorate, I am the last one who wants to research on yet another topic but when I do my research, read, follow people who are experts, it makes me feel so much more at ease when I take the next step of investing in whatever I am trying to accomplish.
- Speak positively about accomplishing it. Everyone has been talking a lot lately about manifesting what you want which is great. I totally agree with that. But, manifestation without an action plan becomes just a wish. Make sure your thoughts match the actions I listed above because it is possible to make time for your dreams to become a reality. We just gotta do it!
Simply said, at work we plan, we have tasks, and we are rewarded with our salary. In life, if you have more dreams in addition to our 9am-5pm responsibilities, like building on income streams, saving money to go on an amazing trip, preparing your kids to be ready for school, buying a home, etc. Plan dreams and aspirations out like you would a task at work. Dedicate time in your day, when you may be usually looking at your phone or watching a tv series you just can’t miss, to planning out your thoughts. Our reward will outweigh a set salary that we work for with our jobs every day, so it is worth it. What it’s done for me more recently:
- Allow me to feel accomplished for taking the “next steps”
- Allow my mind to be free of thinking of what I can be doing productively, which makes meditating much more effective.
- Allow my aspirations to become realistic!
Hope y’all enjoyed!
Stay great!
I really enjoyed this read Casey, it is a good reminder to be present. I am motivated to meditate!
Thanks Michelle! Appreciate it!!
Thank you so much for this. “Manifestation” without dedication to whatever you want to make happen, is just wishful thinking….just what I needed to hear right now! I was already amazed as a colleague, seeing the things you do and the initiatives that you drive on that front. And now you are providing further inspiration on another level. Keep doing you… no matter what!
Thank you so much!! Appreciate you!
